Prof. Donna Lero was interviewed for a Jan. 15 TVO story about why some parents might not benefit from Canada’s newly expanded parental leave program.

Lero, a professor emeritus in the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, said that while the recent minimum wage increases in Ontario and British Columbia may boost overall benefit rates to lower-wage workers applying for paternal leave, they could push those same people beyond the threshold for qualifying for the existing Family Income Supplement program.

Lero’s research includes child care, families and work. She co-founded U of G’s Centre for Families, Work and Well-Being.
