The Sobeys grocery chain will partner with British company Ocado to launch an online grocery store by 2020.

University of Guelph Prof. Michael von Massow says the Sobeys-Ocado partnership will allow Sobeys to get into the online game without having to develop expertise from scratch. He says this is a significant partnership for Sobeys, as the company will have to develop a new infrastructure working with a distribution centre rather than fulfill online orders from its stores.

A professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics, von Massow researches the development of unique food value chains as well as changing food and consumer demands and habits. He is also interested in revenue management in the service and hospitality industries.

He is available for media interviews.
