Campus flags were lowered to half-mast Dec. 7 in memory of Fan Li, a postdoctoral researcher who died in a car accident Nov. 23.
Li worked in the research lab of engineering professor Graham Taylor. “Fan was a talented and dedicated researcher who was determined to make his mark in deep learning following many contributions to remote sensing,” Taylor said.
“He was a friend and mentor to the students and researchers in the lab, always upbeat, patient and kind. Only now that he is gone am I discovering the broad network of people he touched. He will be deeply missed.”
Li, originally from Guangzhou, China, completed his PhD at the University of Waterloo and worked there as a research assistant before joining U of G.
A private funeral service was held Dec. 7.
