Prof. Lawrence Hill, School of English and Theatre Studies, was featured in the Globe and Mail Nov. 18. An address he gave upon receiving an honorary doctorate from McMaster University was adapted into an op-ed article; Hill spoke about recent attempts by some people to verbally and electronically attack alleged victims of assault. He said he refuses “to join any social movement that silences and hurts women who have brought forward complaints related to harassment or assault – where they study, work, walk or live.” The author of 10 books, including the novels The Illegal and The Book of Negroes, Hill has volunteered for 35 years with Crossroads International, which promotes grassroots community economic development for girls and women in Africa.
