It’s already called Canada’s food university. Now the University of Guelph might be labelled Canada’s dairy univDairy at Guelphersity with the launch of a new cross-campus research group called “Dairy at Guelph.”

“Guelph has more researchers working across the dairy value chain than any other university in Canada,” said Prof. David Kelton, holder of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario Chair in Dairy Cattle Health at the Ontario Veterinary College.

“Combined with our state-of-the-art research facilities, such as the new dairy research centre at Elora, and our long history of dairy research, Guelph is truly Canada’s dairy university.”

Daircowsy at Guelph brings together more than 65 researchers from 12 departments and five colleges. The group will act as the main point of contact for all things dairy at U of G— from animal health and welfare to human nutrition and consumer insight—and will encourage collaborations among researchers and the dairy industry.

The new brand was unveiled during the inaugural Dairy Research and Innovation Day, held May 19 at the Delta Guelph Hotel and Conference Centre.

The event brought together government, industry and university representatives to discuss dairy research at U of G and to promote new and existing partnerships.

“Guelph’s dairy researchers are innovators who use the best available science to support Canada’s $6-billion dairy industry,” said Prof. Stephen LeBlanc, Department of Population Medicine. “This event highlights the scope of dairy research at the University of Guelph, and lets external partners know we’re open for business.”
