The University of Guelph will mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, and commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Ecole Polytechnique massacre in Montreal, with special events on Friday and Saturday.
Campus flags will also be at half-mast Dec. 6.
On Friday, a vigil display will take place in the University Centre courtyard from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
People are invited to gather at noon in the UC courtyard to remember, reflect and respond, with a candlelight vigil following the speeches at 1 p.m.
A service will be held beginning at 1:45 p.m. in the atrium of the Thornbrough Building, proceeding to the Memorial Cactus Garden. The garden, located on the second floor of the engineering building, is a memorial for the 14 women who were killed at Ecole Polytechnique.
The vigil display will remain in the UC from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
At noon on Dec. 6, the Suzuki String School of Guelph will perform in the UC courtyard.
A second community gathering will be held at 5 p.m., followed by another candlelight vigil.
