Prof. Marta McCarthy was recently appointed president of Choral Canada – the Association of Canadian Choral Communities (ACCC) – and will be conducting the Ontario Youth Choir this summer.

Considered the national voice for Canadian choral music and musicians, ACCC members include conductors, composers, arrangers, choral administrators, music educators and choristers. McCarthy was elected president-elect in 2012.

The Ontario Youth Choir is made up of 40 singers who audition for a position in the program of rehearsals, master classes and voice lessons. This year’s choir program concludes with an Aug. 24 concert in Toronto.

McCarthy was a board member of Choirs Ontario for six years, including two years as vice-president, and has been the Choirs Ontario librarian since 2003.

At U of G, she conducts the University of Guelph Symphonic Choir, Chamber Singers, and Women’s Chamber Choir (Siren). She teaches musicianship, music education and research, and supervises the applied performance division of the School of Fine Art and Music.
