Bachelor of engineering program counsellor Kim Thompson has been selected to receive U of G’s 2014 Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising Medallion. She has served as program counsellor for the School of Engineering since 2005 and is a 1993 graduate of the school’s program in environmental engineering.

Thompson was nominated by undergraduate student Laura Christensen, who said her advisor’s academic and industry background contribute to her ability to connect with students. “She is empathetic to the challenges that engineering students face, whether that is difficult courses, heavy course load or late nights on projects,” said Christensen.

“Despite the large number of students, she is always sensitive, caring and takes the time to ensure that students leave completely understanding their academic requirements and feeling confident about their future.”

U of G’s Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising Medallion is presented annually to a faculty advisor, program counsellor or staff member who provides high-quality academic advising at the undergraduate level. Thompson will receive the award at the University’s annual Community Breakfast in September.
