University of Guelph cross-country runners won two medals and a fifth-place finish at international competitions Sept. 12 in France and England.

Incoming Gryphon Amelie Kretz captured a bronze medal at the World Under 23 Triathlon Championships in London, England. She finished sixth in the World Junior (Under 20) Triathlon last year. U of G teammate Joanna Brown placed fifth overall in the Under 23 event; she was third last year.

At the Jeux De La Francophonie in Nice, France, Genevieve Lalonde captured the bronze medal in the women’s 3,000-metre steeplechase. She recorded a personal best in the event with a time of 9:53:35. The Jeux De La Francophonie is a multi-sport event for the world’s French-speaking nations.

As Gryphon athletes, Lalonde, Kretz and Brown will all compete at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport cross-country championships Nov. 9 in London, Ont.
