Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne was at the University of Guelph Monday, making her first official visit to campus as the minister of agriculture.

She was here to discuss the University’s partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food (OMAF) and the Ministry of Rural Affairs (MRA), and to see an example of a successful program under the partnership. She toured U of G’s Bioproducts Discovery and Development Centre (BDDC), where scientists use plant materials to make bio-based plastics and bioproducts.

Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph-Wellington and Ontario minister of education, accompanied the premier. They met with Kevin Hall, U of G’s vice-president (research); Rich Moccia, associate vice-president (research and strategic partnerships); engineering professor Manjusri Misra; and BDDC director Amar Mohanty, a professor in the Department of Plant Agriculture and the School of Engineering, and holder of the Premier’s Research Chair in Biomaterials and Transportation.
