The annual FarmSmart Conference for farmers and others members of the agriculture sector will be held on campus Jan. 19 in Rozanski Hall.

This is the 15th year for the educational program, which is organized by Golden Horseshoe and Heartland Regional Soil and Crop Improvement Associations in partnership with the Ontario Agricultural College, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and various agri-business partners.

Keynote speakers are Joe Schwarcz, a McGill University professor who will discuss “The Public Perception of Agriculture,” and research scientist Bob Weaber of Kansas State University, whose topic is “Using Genetics to Meet the Food Demand of 2050.”

The day-long program includes a beef symposium for livestock producers, a youth program for ages 10 to 16, an industry trade show, and tours of University research facilities. New this year is a full-day CornSmart workshop Jan. 18, which will be held at the Puslinch Community Centre in Aberfoyle.
