The University of Guelph’s cheerleading team won the gold medal in the “all-girls” division at the Power Cheerleading Association’s University and Open National Cheerleading Championships held in Brampton recently.

The Nov. 30 win marked the first time the U of G squad captured gold at the competition, which has been held for 28 years. The team was second last year and third in 2010.

Guelph also has a co-ed cheerleading squad, which placed fourth in its division.

The cheerleading club, defunct for several years, returned in 2010.
