Bringing together farmers in northern Ontario and agricultural researchers is the goal of a symposium in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., to be co-sponsored this week by U of G.

The Rural Agri-Innovation Network (RAIN) Agriculture and Food symposium will take place Friday and Saturday at Algoma University.

Rich Moccia, associate vice-president (research), will discuss U of G’s partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and aquaculture research. Rene Van Acker, associate dean (external relations) of the Ontario Agricultural College, will moderate several panel discussions.

Numerous U of G professors will discuss soil and crop productivity, special foods and value-added products, crop trials, livestock production and sustainability.

Other co-sponsors include Algoma University and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council.
