The men’s rugby team won a bronze medal at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championships this past weekend, and head coach Darrell Devine was named the coach of the year.

This is the second time that Devine has won a coach-of-the-year award.

This was the Gryphons’ first OUA medal since their gold season in 1998. On Sunday, the men’s team beat McMaster University in the bronze-medal match 26-16.

Four Gryphons were named all-stars: Joe Newman, Jon West, Scott Beukeboom and Nathan Lippert. Newman, in his second season with the Gryphons, finished the season with 11 conversions and 38 points, which ranked him sixth in OUA scoring.
