Student writers and staff members in the Office of Research were recognized this past weekend during the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) congress. Owen Roberts, director of research communications, received a gold medal for his exemplary service a co-chair of the IFAJ 2011 congress.  Sara Avoledo, manager of research communications and marketing, was presented with a silver medal for her role in executing the event.

The Canadian Farm Writers Federation (CFWF), which held its annual awards ceremony as part of the IFAJ congress, presented the silver O.R. Evans Award for Technical Feature Writing to U of G SPARK (Students Promoting Awareness of Research Knowledge) writer Joey Sabljic. His piece on metritis, an inflammation of the lining of the uterus, appeared in the Dairy Farmers of Ontario publication The Milk Producer.

CFWF presented the bronze Felix Schmaltz General Periodical Award to student Natalie Osborne and the entire SPARK writing team for the 2010 OMAFRA–U of G agri-food yearbook edition of Research Magazine.
