Prof. Julia Christensen Hughes, dean of the College of Management and Economics, will speak on International Women’s Day March 10 at a breakfast event hosted by the Zonta Club of Guelph. Her topic is “Advancing the Status of Women in Business and Academe: A Report Card ─ How Are We Doing?”

The Zonta Club is part of an international organization advancing the status of women worldwide.

Christensen Hughes earned a bachelor of commerce degree at U of G in 1981 and holds MBA and PhD degrees from York University. She began teaching in Guelph’s hospitality and tourism school in 1987 and served as director of Teaching Support Services for 10 years before being appointed chair of a new Department of Business in 2007. She was named college dean in May 2009.

The buffet breakfast will be held at the Italian Canadian Club in Guelph, 7 to 9 a.m.; tickets are $25 per person, $15 student. Advance registration is required; call 519-822-2710.
