U of G students are invited to help local neighbourhoods, children and youth in a new Student Life project.

“YoU in Guelph” will allow students to connect with each other while helping with after-school programs, drop-in centres, breakfast programs, or food and clothing drives.

Student Life’s department of leadership and community engagement will launch the new program Feb. 6 at Winterfest. This city-wide event will offer winter activities and games for children and families in several Guelph neighbourhoods.

“This is a good way for students to become familiar with the neighbourhood groups,” said Rachel Farahbakhsh, co-ordinator of community engaged learning. “Following the event, students will have the chance to consider other possible ways they might want to become more involved in some of the neighbourhood group programs.”

To help with Winterfest, visit the online event registration system: http://www.uoguelph.ca/studentaffairs/reg/index.cfm?event_id=4320

There are several neighbourhood groups to choose from, but spots are limited. Student volunteers will be contacted by group team leaders with details.
