The College of Arts will host the European Identities Conference: Europe in its own Eyes/Europe in the Eyes of the Other in the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre from Oct. 1 to 3. Featuring speakers from North America, Europe and Asia, the conference will explore a wide variety of issues, such as the influence of fashion, popular culture and the media on European identity.

Speakers will include Jessica Adach of the University of Guelph, who will give a talk entitled “Once Upon a Time in Germany: Folklore, Fairytale and the Construction of a Cultural Identity;” Oana Fotache Dubalaru of the University of Bucharest, who will discuss “Postcards from Europe: Representations of (Western) Europe in Romanian Travel Writings, 1960-2010;” and Oksana Weretiuk of Rzeszow University-Poland, who will examine “European Identity and European Identities in the Prose of the Polish-Ukrainian Borderland.”
