The Department of Athletics has announced the addition of Kevin MacNeill and Perry Marchese to the Guelph Gryphon football coaching staff. MacNeill, former assistant coach of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds, has been named defensive co-ordinator, and Marchese, former assistant coach of the Bishop’s University Gaiters, is Guelph’s new offensive co-ordinator.
MacNeill spent two seasons as recruitment co-ordinator, special teams co-ordinator, linebacker coach and assistant defensive co-ordinator at UBC. He coached at Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU) from 2004 to 2007 and was head coach of the Guelph Bears of the Ontario Varsity Football League from 2005 to 2006. A Canadian Interuniversity Sport all-Canadian linebacker and two-time Ontario University Athletics all-star, MacNeill played five seasons for the WLU Golden Hawks.
Marchese joins the Gryphons after serving as the elite program co-ordinator for the Ontario Football Alliance this past year. He was at Bishop’s in 2009 and previously spent six years as offensive co-ordinator for the Steel City Ironmen in the Ontario Varsity Football League. He coached with Team Ontario, winning national championships in 2002 and 2003, followed by stints on the offensive coaching staff of both the Toronto Argonauts and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
