University of Guelph participants managed to reduce close to 2,500 kilograms of carbon emissions and travel 8,700 kilometres using sustainable modes of transportation during this year’s Commuter Challenge.

The annual campaign is a national week-long event aimed at reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles driven to work each day by encouraging people to find green ways of commuting. The University had 77 faculty, staff and students participating in this year’s event, which ran from May 30 to June 5.

Overall, the City of Guelph had 205 participants, placing third among other Canadian cities of similar size. Draw prizes donated by Hospitality Services were handed out to individual U of G participants Monday at an appreciation reception.
