The University of Guelph was recently honoured by the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) with three Prix D’Excellence awards. The awards were handed out June 7 in Victoria, B.C., during CCAE’s annual conference.

Hockey Day in Gryphonville captured silver in the “Best Alumni Event” category. The second annual event, held last fall, honoured the 1975-76 OUA championship team. CCAE judges were impressed by the team turn-out (21 of 23 players were in attendance), the cross-departmental collaboration shown in executing the event and the program’s strong commitment to engaging past and present varsity athletes.

Lori Bona Hunt, associate director of news service in Communications and Public Affairs, brought home a bronze in the “Best News Release-English” category for “Facebook Causes Jealousy, Hampers Romance, Study Finds.” The release resulted in articles in numerous news publications and reports including a Canwest News Service story that was published in several Canadian newspapers. The study was also featured in the Globe and Mail, USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times and the United Kingdom’s Daily Mail.

In addition, Rebecca Kendall, a writer and editor in Communications and Public Affairs, clinched bronze in the “Best Newsletter” category for Insight, a newsletter geared to graduates of the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences. Overall strengths of the three-issue submission was its writing, which was described by the judges as “crisp and to the point;” its “rich journalistic approach” and its clear objectives.
