Natalie Osborne, a second-year biomedical sciences student, has been recognized by the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists. Osborne was honoured for producing an online radio story featuring U of G professors Steve Miller, Kendall Swanson and Brian McBride of the Department of Animal and Poultry Science and post-doctoral researcher Yuri Montanholi. The researchers are using infrared cameras to determine how much heat and methane beef and dairy cattle release from their bodies. That measurement will help reveal which animals use feed most efficiently and allow farmers to capitalize on those animals in their breeding programs. Osborne’s audio clip was featured on CKNX radio in February 2009. The award was presented this month in Belgium.
