SUMMARY:Storytelling for Researchers: How to Tell an Engaging Story
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Renira Narrandes (MA\, MSc(OT)\, MPH) \n\n\n\n\nStorytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have to connect with others and get a message across\, yet many of us have never been trained in it. This talk will take participants on a journey\, from understanding how our brains respond to stories\, to learning how to develop a strong story using The 6-Step Story Planning Template©. Whether participants have an upcoming presentation\, are creating a video\, or are developing a narrative to describe the impact of their work to others\, everyone will come out a better storyteller. \nParticipants will: \n\nDiscuss why stories matter in research\nHear a live story and analyze it as a group\nLearn the 4 ingredients of a compelling story\nApply a story structure to their own work\n\nThis session will be offered virtually using Zoom. The link to join will be in the confirmation and reminder e-mails and on the online event page. \nFor more information and to register for the other sessions\, visit uoguel.ph/research-impact \nIf you have any questions\, please feel welcome to email us at kttadmin@uoguelph.ca.

This program teaches the most effective relaxation\, diet\, and lifestyle strategies to improve this relationship and positively impact IBS symptoms. \nThis practical five-session skills program with Kathy Somers of the Stress Management and High Performance Clinic and Lindzie O’Reilly\, Dietitian\,\nmeets online for an hour on 5 consecutive Fridays\nbeginning at 12:30 p.m. on October 30. \nFee for this 5-session program: \n\n$20 for University of Guelph students (due to a subsidy from U of G Student Health Services)\n$47 for members of United Steelworkers Local 4120 (due to a subsidy from Local 4120)\n$97 for all others\n\nThe Stress Management and High Performance Clinic began in 1978 in the Department of Human Kinetics with Dr. Evelyn Bird’s research on the impact of biofeedback and self-regulation/Non-Sleep Deep Rest techniques on health and performance. When Dr. Bird retired from teaching at the University\, Student Affairs asked the Clinic to continue providing this research-based skills training for interested students\, staff\, faculty\, and community members.

SUMMARY:Indigenous Data Sovereignty: Foundations for Researchers
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Lucia Costanzo\, Associate Librarian\, Research and Scholarship \, McLaughlin Library\, University of Guelph \n\n\n\n\nThis introductory session will provide an overview of Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDS) and why it matters for researchers working with Indigenous Peoples\, communities\, and data. The workshop will introduce key concepts and considerations for working respectfully and responsibly with Indigenous data throughout the research process. \nParticipants will explore what Indigenous Data Sovereignty is\, why it is important\, and what researchers should be thinking about when planning\, collecting\, managing\, sharing\, and preserving Indigenous data. The session will also highlight considerations that may arise through the research ethics process\, including questions researchers may encounter when working with Indigenous communities and data. \nThis session is designed as a foundational awareness workshop for researchers who want to better understand Indigenous Data Sovereignty and identify ways to incorporate respectful and ethical data practices into their research. \nThis session will be offered virtually using Zoom. The link to join will be in the confirmation and reminder e-mails and on the online event page. \nFor more information and to register for the other sessions\, visit uoguel.ph/research-impact \nIf you have any questions\, please feel welcome to email us at kttadmin@uoguelph.ca.

SUMMARY:The Anger 'Iceberg' - Signal or Saboteur?
DESCRIPTION:Anger is an emotional signal. Are you using it effectively? Or replaying and holding on to anger? \nAnger elicits brain and body responses that can be beneficial in the short term but\, when continually surging\, they can negatively impact health\, sleep\, focus\, and relationships. \nThis workshop includes: \n\nthe steps that cardiologists\, the Gottman Institute\, and Meichenbaum’s Stress Inoculation Training (SIT) recommend we employ to cope most effectively through situations that activate our anger cues\nbrain/body approaches for shifting away from an endless loop of persistent uncomfortable / unproductive anger\n\nLearn tips from cardiovascular research to enhance health and coping through anger events\, practice some self-calming exercises\, and bring your questions to the Ask Me Anything section. \nThis free public workshop on International Stress Awareness Day meets online\nfrom 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday\, Nov. 4. \n\nThe Stress Management and High Performance Clinic began in 1978 in the Department of Human Kinetics with Dr. Evelyn Bird’s research on the impact of biofeedback and self-regulation/Non-Sleep Deep Rest techniques on health and performance.
