SUMMARY:#WeBelieveYouDay
DESCRIPTION:The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Office and the SAFE (Sexual Assault Free Environment) Peer Team* invites you to participate in We Believe You Day. \nOn Sept. 20\, the University of Guelph is joining campuses across Ontario to participate in #WeBelieveYou Day to raise awareness about sexual and gender-based violence and to show solidarity with survivors. On #WeBelieveYou day\, we will commit to one simple idea: when a survivor of sexual assault discloses\, we say we believe them. \nHistorically\, survivors have been afraid to disclose experiences of sexual and gender-based violence for fear of not being believed or blamed. It’s one of many reasons why only 6% of sexual assaults are reported to law enforcement in Canada (Statistics Canada\, 2019). That number is strikingly low when statistics illustrate that 1 in 3 women\, 1 in 2 trans/non-binary people and 1 in 6 men experiencing sexual abuse/assault in their lifetime. Students are disproportionately impacted by sexual violence and an estimated 70% have experienced or witnessed unwanted sexual behaviours at a post-secondary institution (Statistics Canada\, 2020). \n#WeBelieveYou Day recognizes that in order to make an integral shift to create cultures of consent on campus\, the whole community must participate in fostering an environment where survivors feel safe and blameless when coming forward to report incidents of sexual assault. \nOn We Believe You Day\, we will unite students\, staff\, faculty and community members in showing public support for survivors through our words and actions in an effort to make our campus and community safer for everyone. \nHow can you participate:\nJoin us to show your support for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence on #WeBelieveYou Day by: \n\nVisiting Johnston Green between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to learn more about sexual violence supports and education on campus and to write your own letter to survivors to be displayed on campus.\nCreating a post or video of what #WeBelieveYou day means to you to post on social media tagging #WeBelieveYou and @wellness_uofg.\nReaching out to Jensen\, the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Education Coordinator (jwilli20@uoguelph.ca)\, to inquire about education and training opportunities available for you to learn more about how to provide supportive responses to disclosures of sexual assault.\nSharing information with your office\, department\, club or group about #WeBelieveYou day and encourage them to participate.\n\n*The SAFE Peer team is a student-led peer team who focuses on developing and delivering sexual and gender-based violence prevention and education initiatives

SUMMARY:FREE: Fall Equinox Day of Yoga Fun Event
DESCRIPTION:The U of G Classical Yoga for Total Health and Awareness group is celebrating the Fall Equinox by holding a FREE yoga class for the U of G campus! Opening remarks by Carrie Chassels\, Vice-Provost (Student Affairs) at 12 noon. \nFall Equinox is a very special time in nature\, as it is a transition\, preparation\, and balancing point as night and day become equal. It is a natural invitation to turn toward the light within\, to allow for introspection in preparation for the slower\, darker\, and colder months to come. \nLet’s take this time to rebalance\, nourish ourselves\, rest\, restore and release anything not serving our purpose\, so that we can enter the rest of the year re-energized and bring clarity and focus in the mind. \nThis event is open to all students\, staff and faculty at U of G\, and is a time to build community and practice together at this special time of year. \nPlease join us! Find out more. \nThis event is sponsored by the U of G Wellness@Work grant. \nThe Classical Yoga for Total Health and Awareness group also holds FREE Classical Yoga and Meditation classes on campus every Tuesday at lunchtime. For more information\, please visit Classical Yoga and Meditation.

SUMMARY:Celebrate International Day of Yoga with Classical Yoga for Total Health & Awareness
DESCRIPTION:This event is free for everyone. All are welcome to attend. No previous yoga experience is required. \nJoin us on Johnston Green to Celebrate International Day of Yoga (IDY). Take part in a free Classical Yoga for Total Health & Awareness session from noon to 1 p.m.. Together\, we’ll align with the global energies of IDY and the summer solstice. The Classical Yoga practice will be followed by a bring-your-own-lunch yoga picnic from 1 to 2 p.m. \nPlease bring a yoga mat\, a non-plastic water bottle and picnic lunch. Have fun! \nClassical Yoga is not only about Asanas (postures)\, it is also about deeply exploring the breathing\, meditative and relaxation dimensions of this practice. This integrated approach moves the practitioner toward balance in all aspects – mental\, emotional\, physical\, social and ecological – of his or her being. By practicing these Asanas\, Pranayama\, Meditation and Relaxation (and Mudras) techniques an inner awareness develops that gradually carries over into the daily life of the practitioner. \nRegular Classical Yoga practice will help improve health\, flexibility\, strength and lead to a balanced\, connected (improved relationships)\, focused\, creative (successful)\, peaceful and joyful life. \nU of G’s Classical Yoga for Total Health and Awareness Program celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. It was originally started by professor emeritus and Order of Canada recipient O.P. Dwivedi. A series of events will be held throughout the year to mark the 10th anniversary\, exploring the power and positive relationship of yoga and mental health in the context of life in the 21st century. Events will be shared through https://uoguel.ph/idy2019. \nThis event is sponsored by U of G’s Wellness@Work grant program.
