SUMMARY:Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:Come\, brave the cold\, and see the stars! Members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will be setting up astronomical telescopes for private viewings. Come see winter constellations like Taurus\, Gemini\, and Orion\, as well as star clusters\, nebulae\, and many other curious objects in the beautiful winter Milky Way. Later\, as winter melts into spring\, we may even view a few distant galaxies. \nOur goal is to run 2 of the following programs: \n\nThursday\, Nov. 27\, 2025\, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.\nThursday\, Jan. 22\, 2026\, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.\nThursday\, Feb. 26\, 2026\, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.\nThursday\, March 26\, 2026\, 9 to 11 p.m.\nThursday\, April 23\, 2026\, 9 to 11 p.m.\nThursday\, May 28\, 2026\, 9 to 11 p.m.\n\nThe weather makes stargazing very unpredictable and therefore hard to schedule. Instead of opening up registration for all of these dates and having to cancel some of them\, we are instead going to have everyone who is interested sign up on a list (there is no fee to do this). To sign up on the list click on the link to register for workshops and you will find the link for the list in the list of workshops. \nThe morning of each of the above listed dates we will send an email out by 10:30 a.m. to let you know whether the instructors are going to run the program or not. Their decision will be based both on the sky and the weather (ie. if it is forecasted to be excessively cold the program will not run). The registration will open when we send the email out. Anyone can register for the program regardless of whether they are on the sign up list or not. \nFee: $19 (plus HST) per person\, per session. Please note these programs are non-refundable once you register and pay for them.

SUMMARY:Walking as Remapping: Slow Walk to Nowhere Part II The Green Path with Dawn Matheson
DESCRIPTION:Open to all ages and abilities\, including those using assistive devices. Dress for the weather and come ready to wander! \nJoin us for the second in a two-part series of experimental walking programs led by artist Dawn Matheson\, presented in the context of the exhibition 155\,578. Slow Walk to Nowhere Part II: The Green Path invites participants to engage in a walk guided not by intention or destination\, but by the world around them. Set in the University of Guelph Arboretum\, each walker will follow only external cues—a bird call\, a shifting breeze\, the direction of a falling leaf\, a scent on the wind\, or the orientation of a branch. These subtle signs become wayfinders in a slow drift shaped by the natural world. \nNote that The Arboretum has two porta potties available in the evening\, located at the east end of the closed washrooms. One is wheelchair accessible. \nStarting point: Hales-MacKay Shelter\, by the parking lot off the College St. Arboretum entrance

SUMMARY:Arboretum Workshop: Pond Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Mask\, proof of vaccination and screening required to attend this event. \nPonds teem with a diversity of prey and predators that conduct their lives largely unseen below the surface. The online portion of this workshop will introduce you to some of these fascinating animals. \nThe importance of vernal pools will be highlighted. These temporary ponds are crucial to the reproductive success of various creatures including wood frogs\, fairy shrimp and spotted salamanders. \nThe outdoor workshop will begin with an examination of several species of pond organisms that Don Scallen will have on hand. We’ll then visit one of the Arboretum ponds to see what else we can discover. Dip nets and containers to briefly house the creatures will be supplied. \nFee: $55 (plus HST) per person\, per session if booked prior to the early bird deadline of April 15\, 2022. After the early bird date the fee is $65 plus HST per person. Please note that the virtual program on April 20 is included in this In-Person Pond Workshop. If you sign up for the In-Person Pond Workshop you do not need to sign up for the virtual program as you will automatically receive the link for the virtual portion in the In-Person confirmation. \nMUST REGISTER TO ATTEND.
