SUMMARY:Baby Steps - Forest Therapy for Newborns or Infants and their Caregiver
DESCRIPTION:Fridays\, September 4\, 11\, 18\, 25\, October 2\, and 9\, 2026\n10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.\nFormat: In-Person\nInstructor: Giulia Pozzi \nJoin Giulia\, a mother\, artist\, and certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide in a series of low-key\, slow-paced\, and restorative Forest Therapy sessions. \nLife with a new baby is complex: poor sleep\, fussiness\, and isolation can all be part of the journey. While there is so much to celebrate\, sometimes we also need space to process all the changes that come with parenthood and even grieve aspects of our pre-baby lives. During our time together we will slow down\, reconnect to our senses\, and allow whatever feelings arise to be gently held by the land\, all while witnessing the changing colors of the fall. \nWhat is Forest Therapy? It originated in Japan in the 80s\, today it is practiced all over the world. Research shows us the benefits of regular\, intentional sessions with nature\, which include lower blood pressure and stress levels\, relief of low mood states\, and increased sense of wellbeing and meaning. No previous experience is needed. \nWhat to expect: \n\nGentle\, flexible invitations to inspire you and your baby to engage with the natural world and each other\nMoments of optional sharing as a group. A space that honours the realities of caring for a new baby; changing diapers\, nursing\, crying babies\, strollers and carriers\, all is welcome!\nClosing tea ceremony (please provide your own snacks).\nBring a blanket\, baby carrier for naps and comfort\, and all your baby gear and food\, plus weather appropriate clothes for you and baby.\n\nDisclaimer: This is not group therapy and Giulia is not a trained psychotherapist. The Forest is the therapist\, the Guide opens the door. \nMaximum 20 adults with a child up to 1 year of age. \nFee: $55 (plus HST) per person if you register by the early bird deadline of August 27\, 2026. SUMMARY:How to Buy a Country: Screening & Community Conversation
DESCRIPTION:New US tariffs just landed. How did Canada get here? Join a documentary screening and cross-partisan community conversation about Canada’s path forward. \nJoin Resistance & Resilience Guelph and OPIRG Guelph for a screening of How to Buy a Country\, followed by a community conversation about the future we want for Canada. \nThe 50-minute documentary explores the political\, economic\, and environmental forces shaping Canada and our relationship with the United States. But this evening isn’t just about looking backward. We want to talk about where we go from here. \nFollowing the screening\, we’ll hear perspectives from representatives from across political parties about their visions for Canada’s future – and then open the conversation to you. \nWhat should Canada’s path forward look like? What do we want to protect? What needs to change? And what can communities like Guelph\, which is one of the most impacted cities in Canada by US tariffs\, do? \nCome listen\, ask questions\, meet neighbours and leaders\, and share your own vision for the country we want to build. \nTickets are Pay What You Can (suggested $10). This helps cover events costs. Any extra funds will go towards community programs that support Guelph through the impact of US tariffs. \n🎟️ Event information and registration \n🎬 Film trailer: \n\n\n\nIf you’d like to help volunteer at event\, email RRGuelph@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Reconciling competing truths: Rethinking how we prioritize in One Health
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Sarah Robinson will share her journey from veterinary medicine to interdisciplinary research\, highlighting how her thinking has evolved along the way\, and some reflections for early career researchers carving out their own path in One Health. Dr. Robinson will discuss her current work on prioritization: how we decide what matters and where to direct limited resources across human\, animal\, and environmental health. Prioritization isn’t just about ranking threats; it’s about whose health we value and in which futures we’re willing to invest.
