SUMMARY:Indigenous Data Sovereignty: Foundations for Researchers
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Lucia Costanzo\, Associate Librarian\, Research and Scholarship \, McLaughlin Library\, University of Guelph \n\n\n\n\nThis introductory session will provide an overview of Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDS) and why it matters for researchers working with Indigenous Peoples\, communities\, and data. The workshop will introduce key concepts and considerations for working respectfully and responsibly with Indigenous data throughout the research process. \nParticipants will explore what Indigenous Data Sovereignty is\, why it is important\, and what researchers should be thinking about when planning\, collecting\, managing\, sharing\, and preserving Indigenous data. The session will also highlight considerations that may arise through the research ethics process\, including questions researchers may encounter when working with Indigenous communities and data. \nThis session is designed as a foundational awareness workshop for researchers who want to better understand Indigenous Data Sovereignty and identify ways to incorporate respectful and ethical data practices into their research. \nThis session will be offered virtually using Zoom. The link to join will be in the confirmation and reminder e-mails and on the online event page. \nFor more information and to register for the other sessions\, visit uoguel.ph/research-impact \nIf you have any questions\, please feel welcome to email us at kttadmin@uoguelph.ca.

SUMMARY:The Anger 'Iceberg' - Signal or Saboteur?
DESCRIPTION:Anger is an emotional signal. Are you using it effectively? Or replaying and holding on to anger? \nAnger elicits brain and body responses that can be beneficial in the short term but\, when continually surging\, they can negatively impact health\, sleep\, focus\, and relationships. \nThis workshop includes: \n\nthe steps that cardiologists\, the Gottman Institute\, and Meichenbaum’s Stress Inoculation Training (SIT) recommend we employ to cope most effectively through situations that activate our anger cues\nbrain/body approaches for shifting away from an endless loop of persistent uncomfortable / unproductive anger\n\nLearn tips from cardiovascular research to enhance health and coping through anger events\, practice some self-calming exercises\, and bring your questions to the Ask Me Anything section. \nThis free public workshop on International Stress Awareness Day meets online\nfrom 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday\, Nov. 4. \n\nThe Stress Management and High Performance Clinic began in 1978 in the Department of Human Kinetics with Dr. Evelyn Bird’s research on the impact of biofeedback and self-regulation/Non-Sleep Deep Rest techniques on health and performance. Their decision will be based both on the sky and the weather (e.g. if the excessive cold is forecast\, the program will not run). Registration will open when the email is sent. Please note\, anyone can register for the program regardless of whether they are on the sign-up list or not. \nFee: $19 (plus HST) per person\, per session. SUMMARY:Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays (November – June)\, as listed below\nTimes are as listed below\nFormat: In-Person\nInstructor: Trevor Chandler and/or Michael Wright \nCome\, brave the cold\, and see the stars! Members of the Kitchener-Waterloo Royal Astronomical Society of Canada will be setting up astronomical telescopes for private viewings. Come see winter constellations like Taurus\, Gemini\, and Orion\, as well as star clusters\, nebulae\, and many other curious objects in the beautiful winter Milky Way. Later\, as winter melts into spring\, we may even view a few distant galaxies. \n\nThursday\, November 12\, 2026\, 6 to 8 p.m. (Moon\, Saturn)\nThursday\, January 14\, 2027\, 6 to 8 p.m. (Moon\, Saturn)\nThursday\, February 11\, 2027\, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (Moon\, Saturn\, Jupiter & Mars at their best)\nThursday\, March 11\, 2027\, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (Moon\, Saturn\, Jupiter\, Mars)\nThursday\, April 8\, 2027\, 8 to 10 p.m. (Moon\, Jupiter\, Mars)\nThursday\, May 13\, 2027\, 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. (Moon\, Mercury\, Jupiter\, Mars)\nThursday\, June 10\, 2027\, 9 to 11 p.m. (Moon\, Jupiter\, Mars)\n\nThe information in the brackets indicates the principal solar system objects visible at the time. \nUnpredictable weather makes stargazing difficult to schedule\, so rather than opening registration for these specific dates and having to cancel some of them we are instead going to have everyone who is interested sign up on a pre-registration list (there is no fee to do this). \nThe morning of each of the posted dates we will send an email out by 10:30 am. to let you know whether the instructors are going to run the program or not. Please note these programs are non-refundable once you register and pay for them.
