SUMMARY:The Anger 'Iceberg' - Signal or Saboteur?
DESCRIPTION:Anger is an emotional signal. Are you using it effectively? Or replaying and holding on to anger? \nAnger elicits brain and body responses that can be beneficial in the short term but\, when continually surging\, they can negatively impact health\, sleep\, focus\, and relationships. \nThis workshop includes: \n\nthe steps that cardiologists\, the Gottman Institute\, and Meichenbaum’s Stress Inoculation Training (SIT) recommend we employ to cope most effectively through situations that activate our anger cues\nbrain/body approaches for shifting away from an endless loop of persistent uncomfortable / unproductive anger\n\nLearn tips from cardiovascular research to enhance health and coping through anger events\, practice some self-calming exercises\, and bring your questions to the Ask Me Anything section. \nThis free public workshop on International Stress Awareness Day meets online\nfrom 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday\, Nov. 4. \n\nThe Stress Management and High Performance Clinic began in 1978 in the Department of Human Kinetics with Dr. Evelyn Bird’s research on the impact of biofeedback and self-regulation/Non-Sleep Deep Rest techniques on health and performance. When Dr. Bird retired from teaching at the University\, Student Affairs asked the Clinic to continue providing this research-based skills training for interested students\, staff\, faculty\, and community members.
