DESCRIPTION:Cuttings are a great way to propagate all kinds of plants including perennials\, trees\, shrubs and houseplants. This workshop will look at different ways to propagate cuttings and compare them to using seeds. Most of the time will be spent on techniques that use media other than water. \nWe’ll distinguish between softwood\, semi-hardwood and hardwood cuttings. Have a look at different media and examine the role of rotting hormones\, both commercial and DIY options. \nThe speaker will show you his simplified method that is great for gardeners since it requires no special equipment. \nFee: $10 (plus HST) per person.

Reports from civil society organizations and researchers suggest that the implementation of these agreements is only partial\, resulting in fewer supports and services for people with disabilities in Canada and abroad\, and more people becoming disabled. \nJoin a conversation with civil society leaders and researchers about the implications for people with disabilities of Canada’s failure to implement international agreements\, and the role of women\, girls\, and gender-diverse people with disabilities in leading responses to these failures. \nRegister to receive the Zoom link. \nThis event is the first in a series co-hosted by the Live Work Well Research Centre (liveworkwell.ca) and Dr. Leah Levac’s Canada Research Chair in Critical Community Engagement and Public Policy. In SPSS micro 6: Independent samples t-test\, you will learn the data type required for the test\, check the assumptions for the test\, and conduct both an independent samples t-test and a Wilcoxon signed-rank test! \nPrior knowledge of SPSS is not required. He is a Professor and the Senator William McMaster Chair in Global Human Rights at McMaster University\, Canada. He is also an Independent Expert-Rapporteur for the United Nations Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development. With extensive teaching experience across Africa\, Europe\, the United States\, and Canada\, Dr. Ibhawoh brings a global perspective to his work. He is the Project Director of Participedia\, a global research network focused on public participation and democratic innovation\, and the founding Director of the McMaster University Centre for Human Rights and Restorative Justice. Also to provide an environment to support artists in the creation of innovative forms of artistic expression to reach the widest possible audience and to be cultural ambassadors\, nationally and internationally. \nMeryem Alaoui is a dancer and choreographer from Morocco based in Toronto. Founder and co-artistic director of Jasad Dance Projects\, her work is at the intersection of somatic research using movement and voice\, and the exploration of contemporaneity through the reclamation of embodied performance practices\, dances and knowledge from her culture as a Moroccan diasporic dance artist. A graduate of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre\, she has performed in numerous projects led by choreographers such as Amanda Acorn\, Peggy Baker\, Antony Hamilton and Karen Kaeja. She has shared her choreographic work nationally and internationally\, notably in Ontario\, Quebec and Morocco. SUMMARY:Acoustic Innovation: Is There Anything Left to Invent?
DESCRIPTION:In his talk\, Fron Reilly will demonstrate his latest musical instrument—the fron2\, a ten-string rotating bowed zither—and he will tell the story of its creation. He will also delve into the acoustics of how it produces its unique sound and what distinguishes that sound from electronically generated sounds. Afterward\, audience members will be invited to participate in a live improv session. Bring your instrument! \nAbout the Presenter:\nFron Reilly is a maker\, designer\, builder\, and inventor living in Guelph. He holds a BSc in physics from the University of Waterloo. Now retired\, he has worked in many fields including teaching\, industrial automation\, and electronic transformer design. In addition\, he has always been and remains busy in his workshop creating things that work\, including wooden sculptural clock mechanisms\, musical instruments\, kinetic sculptures\, stirling engines\, and sundials. You can see many of his innovative instruments in action on his YouTube channel\, @fronreilly4787\, which has garnered over two million views.

DESCRIPTION:One Health Seminar with Dan Kraus \nCanada is one of 196 countries committed to reversing the loss of nature through the Global Biodiversity Framework. Implementing the framework to solve complex challenges will require innovative solutions\, new approaches\, and unexpected alliances. Dan Kraus will share insights into the current state of nature conservation in Canada\, including the country’s new 2030 Nature Strategy. He will also explore successful conservation collaborations\, emphasize the critical role of listening and trust\, and discuss how adopting One Health approaches can lead to better outcomes for both nature and people.

You will have the opportunity to reflect and put the skills into practice during the workshop. \nThis workshop is part of the Canada-wide Procrastination Awareness Week and will be offered to students at any participating university or college. DESCRIPTION:Looking for a statistics tune-up using SPSS? Come to the sixth workshop in our 11-part series to teach you the basics! In SPSS micro 6: Independent samples t-test\, you will learn the data type required for the test\, check the assumptions for the test\, and conduct both an independent samples t-test and a Wilcoxon signed-rank test! \nPrior knowledge of SPSS is not required. Prior knowledge of statistics is not required. If you have no knowledge of SPSS or statistics\, attending workshops #1 and #2 is highly recommended to orient you to these topics. \nYou do not need to attend every session 🙂 if you miss a session or want additional support\, you can check the SPSS LibGuide (written by the instructor). \nNOTE: This workshop will be held online via Teams. This workshop is open to U of G students\, staff\, and faculty. You MUST have a University of Guelph e-mail (ending in either @guelphhumber.ca or @uoguelph.ca) to register and participate in this workshop. As an e-mail will be sent to all registered attendees the morning of the workshop\, registration closes 6 hours before the workshop.
