At first\, it may seem big and confusing\, but as you strike out and become more and more familiar with prominent landmarks\, the day comes when you realize that the neighborhood is no longer new. It’s home. \nJoin the Arboretum for monthly online sessions as we get to know the night sky a little better. Participants will be introduced to prominent stars and constellations\, where to look for them and how the motions of planet Earth cause them to appear to shift from hour to hour and month to month. You will receive a downloadable star map to help you make your way through the stars. DESCRIPTION:Love and Liberation is a series of workshops and discussions that centre BIPOC student experiences as we develop concrete strategies for change within and between our communities. The conference will bring together community leaders\, activists and those engaged in practices of liberation who will invite BIPOC students to deconstruct current realities while providing tools and resources for building an anti-racist future. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to choose from 10 interactive online dialogues that explore various themes including cultivating food justice\, navigating racialized trauma\, building Black and Indigenous solidarity\, celebrating Black love\, engaging in transformative justice and more. \nFollowing the workshops\, we welcome participants to engage in a wellness session led by anti-racist educator Selam Debs\, who will guide us in a practice to embody movement and center our well-being as we engage in this work of decolonization. \nKeynote | Looking Back to Look Forward: Beyond Police and Policing with Robyn Maynard  \nThe conference will feature a keynote address by activist and author Robyn Maynard that explores the legacy of racialized violence in Canada and advocates a vision for a Black feminist and abolitionist future. Although the ability to successfully modernize an organization in our fast-paced\, rapidly changing world is essential\, most small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)\, which make up over 98% of total businesses across the world and are a large contribution to value added and employment\, are lacking any will and/or capacity to evolve\, with most of them still following old business styles. Additionally\, minorities\, such as immigrants\, women\, BIPOC and LGBTQ2+ communities\, etc.\, face relatively more barriers while exploring business opportunities. \nIn this backdrop\, the University of Guelph Humber is pleased to host an international applied business conference on the evolution of small and medium enterprises. The conference will be held virtually on Zoom May 6 – 7\, 2021. \nThis conference aims at bringing together academic scholars\, researchers\, entrepreneurs\, policy makers and students from around the globe for an opportunity to present case studies and discuss applied research papers\, as well as to foster research collaborations. It will be an international gathering where participants will explore possible ways for businesses to succeed in this continuously evolving and fast paced environment\, while learning from successful case studies from various parts of the world and contributing to open innovation. Typical tasks include fixing spelling\, removing duplicate rows\, finding and replacing text\, changing number formats and merging and splitting columns. \nThis workshop will familiarize you with OpenRefine\, a powerful data manipulation tool that cleans\, reshapes and edit batches of messy and unstructured data. When using OpenRefine to clean and transform data\, you can easily facet\, cluster\, edit cells\, reconcile and extend web services to convert a dataset to a more structured format. \nBy the end of this workshop\, you will be able to explain the importance of cleaning your data and complete basic data cleaning tasks using OpenRefine.

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Ecopsychology-Arboretum Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ecopsychology is the area of study that explores the connective\, holistic relationship of humans and the Earth. Amidst social distancing and physical isolation\, the COVID-19 pandemic has invaded our lives in an unprecedented way. Experts have highlighted the complex toll this can take on our mental health. This programme is aimed at providing an experience where you will interact with an online community and share nature-based experiences to help bring hope\, resilience\, and positivity in your life right now. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in this eight-week course that explores hands-on components of Ecopsychology as well as some elements of Eco-Art Therapy. Participants will be introduced to some key concepts of Ecopsychology and then participate in some reflective and nature-connective activities. This course is completely conducive to all levels of social distancing and isolation. \nMemona Hossain is a mother and wife. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Applied Ecopsychology program through Project Nature Connect\, which is affiliated with Akamai University. Hossain has also completed her master’s in education at the University of Toronto and is working to complete her certification in art therapy. Hossain has been working in the field of mental health\, addictions and developmental disabilities for over 15 years. She has taught ecopsychology at the University of Guelph Arboretum and Riverwood Conservancy. Hossain is involved in eco-diverse conversations\, engaging with individuals and groups of diverse background as it pertains to climate action. She is currently involved in a global research project exploring women from around the world and their connection to the Earth and environmental activism.

At first\, it may seem big and confusing\, but as you strike out and become more and more familiar with prominent landmarks\, the day comes when you realize that the neighborhood is no longer new. It’s home. \nJoin the Arboretum for monthly online sessions as we get to know the night sky a little better. Participants will be introduced to prominent stars and constellations\, where to look for them and how the motions of planet Earth cause them to appear to shift from hour to hour and month to month. You will receive a downloadable star map to help you make your way through the stars. We’ll learn a half dozen or so constellations every month and you will be invited to discuss your observations with the group as we each get to know the neighborhood a little better. \nFee: $10 (plus HST) per person\, per session.
