SUMMARY:ONLINE : Seeing the Forest for the Trees – Trees as Participants in Theatre and Performance
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free public talk by Megan De Roover\, Writer-in-Residence affiliated with The Arboretum this year! She is conducting archival and on-site research for her new book Seeing the Forest for the Trees: Trees as Participants in Theatre and Performance (McGill-Queen’s University Press). Using a theatre and performance lens\, her research monograph explores the relations we already have with trees – in lived and mediated encounters – and how we can aim to build better ones. Readers will be pushed to reconsider the ubiquitous yet overlooked tree\, and thereby the nonhuman world more generally\, through new theoretical frameworks. Registration is available at the link below.

SUMMARY:ONLINE: Library Workshop - Data Skills: Introduction to GIS using ArcGIS Pro
DESCRIPTION:ArcGIS is a Geographic Information System (GIS) – a software program for working with maps and geographic data. ArcGIS Pro is the newest desktop mapping software of ArcGIS. A GIS allows you to work with any data that you know a location for (eg. addresses\, latitude/longitude\, census locations\, name of a place\, etc.). ArcMap is available for download to the University community. Although similar in some ways to online mapping sites\, ArcGIS has greater analytical capabilities and allows you more input and control over your map. \nIn this workshop we will learn how to navigate ArcPro\, kinds of GIS data\, how to add data to a map\, basic symbology and labelling\, how to filter data\, and how to create a finished map. \nPlease note: You must use a University of Guelph login to self-register for this workshop. If you don’t have a U of G email address\, please contact library@uoguelph.ca to request registration for this workshop. When you register for this workshop you are committing to attend the entire workshop unless you confirm otherwise with the instructor. This workshop is limited to 12 attendees. If you are suddenly not able to attend\, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can offer your spot to someone on our waiting list. \nYou must have ArcGIS Pro installed on your computer prior to the workshop and you must have requested and installed an ArcGIS Online account in order to access ArcGIS Pro. You will not have time during the session to install the software or acquire an account. You must attend this workshop on a computer (not a mobile device). We cannot troubleshoot software or installations during the session. If you are unable to install the software please contact the presenter so we can give your seat to someone on the waiting list. Software is available from the CCS Software Distribution Site. You will find you are able to participate more fully if you have a second screen on your computer. \nIf you have any issues with your install\, please contact the IT Help Desk. \nPlease note: this workshop will take place online via Zoom. SUMMARY:ONLINE: Library Workshop - ArcGIS Pro 2 - More Analysis in GIS: Data Skills
DESCRIPTION:ArcGIS is a Geographic Information System (GIS) – a software program for working with maps and geographic data. A GIS allows you to work with any data that you know a location for (e.g.\, addresses\, latitude/longitude\, census locations\, name of a place\, etc.). ArcGIS is available on all library computers\, also by download to the University community. Although similar in some ways to online mapping sites\, ArcGIS has greater analytical capabilities and allows you more input and control over your map. In this workshop we’ll learn further GIS tools\, work with tables and begin working with raster data. \nPlease note: You must use a University of Guelph login to self-register for this workshop. If you don’t have a U of G email address\, please contact library@uoguelph.ca to request registration for this workshop. You must have ArcGIS Pro installed on your computer and your account registered prior to the workshop. You will not have time during the session to install the software. You must attend this workshop on a computer (not a mobile device). We cannot troubleshoot software or installations during the session. If you are unable to install the software please contact the presenter so we can give your seat to someone on the waiting list. Software is available from the CCS Software Distribution Site. You will find you are able to particpate more fully if you have a second screen on your computer. \nIf you have any issues with your install\, please contact the IT Help Desk. \nThis workshop will take place online via Zoom. A reminder email with the meeting link will be emailed to you 24 hours before the workshop.
