DESCRIPTION:The Thriving in Action Program \nJoin us for Thriving in Action\, a new online program at the University of Guelph. Thriving in Action will help you move from languishing to flourishing throughout your time in university. Build motivation\, optimism and resilience\, and learn how to integrate those skills into your work as a student. In each workshop\, you will learn and practice both wellness and learning strategies that will help you be the student you want to be. Join us for one or all four workshops this spring and learn how to thrive. Workshops are offered online and will be delivered via Zoom. This program is offered by the Library and Student Wellness. \nAll participants will be entered in a draw for one of two gift certificates valued at $25. Attend all four workshops and your name will be entered four times. She is conducting archival and on-site research for her new book Seeing the Forest for the Trees: Trees as Participants in Theatre and Performance (McGill-Queen’s University Press). Using a theatre and performance lens\, her research monograph explores the relations we already have with trees – in lived and mediated encounters – and how we can aim to build better ones. Readers will be pushed to reconsider the ubiquitous yet overlooked tree\, and thereby the nonhuman world more generally\, through new theoretical frameworks. DESCRIPTION:ArcGIS is a Geographic Information System (GIS) – a software program for working with maps and geographic data. ArcGIS Pro is the newest desktop mapping software of ArcGIS. A GIS allows you to work with any data that you know a location for (eg. addresses\, latitude/longitude\, census locations\, name of a place\, etc.). ArcMap is available for download to the University community. Although similar in some ways to online mapping sites\, ArcGIS has greater analytical capabilities and allows you more input and control over your map. \nIn this workshop we will learn how to navigate ArcPro\, kinds of GIS data\, how to add data to a map\, basic symbology and labelling\, how to filter data\, and how to create a finished map. \nPlease note: You must use a University of Guelph login to self-register for this workshop. Join Chris Earley\, Arboretum Interpretive Biologist and author of five bird field guides\, for a series of eight virtual noon-hour lectures on eight different bird groups. ID techniques\, field marks\, shapes\, behaviour clues and more will all be covered. Each course will finish with a 10 to 15 minute discussion period so you can ask all your bird-related questions. Although similar in some ways to online mapping sites\, ArcGIS has greater analytical capabilities and allows you more input and control over your map.
