DESCRIPTION:Writing Services hosts this free\, week-long retreat for University of Guelph faculty\, staff\, and postdoctoral scholars working on scholarly writing projects. (Graduate students should apply for the Dissertation Writing Retreat.) \nDates: Monday to Friday\, May 5 – 9\, 2025 from 9:15 a.m. – 4 pm.. \nAre you trying to find time to work on an article or book chapter? Register now for the 12th annual Faculty Writing Retreat (FWR). \nThe retreat offers an opportunity to build a supportive writing group with colleagues from across the university and to join in group discussions on writing and publishing. Individual consultations will also be available. \nParticipants should plan to be available for all five days of the retreat. However\, accommodations can be arranged. \nRegistration will be limited on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nLocation: Hybrid on Zoom and in-person in a quiet\, comfortable space in the McLaughlin Library. \nThere are two registration options\, online and in person. You are welcome to participate both online and in person throughout this week. However\, if you plan to attend any of the days in person\, please register for the “in-person” option\, as we require these numbers to help us prepare our classroom spaces. \nIf you have questions\, please email Jodie Salter at jsalter@uoguelph.ca

DESCRIPTION:Join Artist Candice Leyland for an online watercolour class exploring spring ephemeral flowers inspired by Ontario and the Guelph\, Arboretum. We will look at a variety of techniques to capture these delicate ephemeral blooms and work through a painting of snow drops. Reference photos will be provided in advance. Some watercolour experience is recommended\, but this workshop can be beneficial for all levels. \nWatercolor Spring Ephemeral Class Supply List \n\nWatercolor Paints:\n\nA set of high-quality watercolor paints (tubes or pans)\nRecommended colors: Cadmium Yellow\, Lemon Yellow\, Cadmium Red\, Alizarin Crimson\, Ultramarine Blue\, Cobalt Blue\, Sap Green\, Hooker’s Green\, Burnt Sienna\, Burnt Umber Watercolor\n\n\nPaper: 140 lb (300 gsm) cold-pressed watercolor paper Recommended sizes: 8 x 10 inches\nBrushes: Round brushes (sizes \, 6\, 8\, 10) Flat brushes or a large wash brush (sizes 1/2 inch and 1 inch) Detail brush (size 0 or 1)\nPalette: A mixing palette with wells for individual colors and a flat area for mixing\nWater Containers: Two containers for clean and dirty water\nPaper Towels or Cloth: For blotting and cleaning brushes\nMasking Tape: To secure paper to your work surface\nPencil and Eraser: For sketching initial outlines\n\nFee: $25 (plus HST) per person.
