DESCRIPTION:What are English Language Workshops: Everyday Writing?\nThis five-part program provides support in academic written communication for graduate-level students who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL). This program provides students an opportunity to improve their writing in typical academic and professional scenarios. The scenarios include: \n\nWriting emails to professors and/or advisors\nProviding written feedback to students as TAs\nAvoiding plagiarism\nWriting abstracts for academic audiences\nWriting cover letters to potential employers\n\nThis program is divided into five workshops that run over three weeks. Each workshop is two hours in length. This program is offered only in the Fall semester. \nAre these workshops for you?\n\nAre you a graduate student\, postdoctoral fellow\, or visiting scholar who speaks English as an Additional Language?\nWould you like to develop your confidence and skills in academic writing\nWould you like a safe place to practice and develop writing strategies for a variety of academic contexts?\n\nIf you answered yes to these questions\, then this program is for you! \nWhat can you expect as a participant?\n\nParticipants will engage in discussions around the challenges and strategies for successfully writing emails to advisors and professors; feedback to students (as TAs); paraphrases; abstracts; and cover letters.\nParticipants will engage in practice activities that will allow them to learn and practice written communication skills and strategies as they apply to these academic and professional scenarios.\nStudents will brainstorm and develop language and vocabulary that can be used in these writing tasks.\n\nWho can attend?\nThis program accepts registrations from U of G graduate students\, postdoctoral fellows\, or visiting scholars who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL).
